Painted Hills

Painted Hills is one of the three units of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, located in the state of Oregon, US. We explored only the painted hills.

On a first glance it may seem like spray painted hills. But these are naturally formed colourful layers and is a geological wonder. Each distinct colour represents a geological period.

Watching these is an experience... the nature's power of erosion.

Feeling like that time has frozen or have we moved to the past, a million years ago !

I believe the colour and hue apper differently with season and time of the day.
Havent had a chance for a second visit !

The journey back from painted hills to Washington is another unique experience.

The drive through the winding coutry roads ...

...and not to forget the countless windmills seen as far as your eyes could reach !
