Tropical Butterfly House - Seattle

The Tropical Butteryfly House is one of the several exhibits housed at the Seattle's Pacific Science Centre.

Against the overcast Seattle weather, this is a warm and sunny place where the colourful  butterflies are kept active throughout the year by supplimenting the heat, light and humidity required to sustain the tropical ecosystem.

Most butterflies are imported from South and Central America, Africa and Asia.

Also related to the butterflies is this 3D movie 'Flight of the Butterflies' at the Pacific Science Centre's IMAX theatre. The film immerses you in the astounding migration experience as two generations of the Monarch butterflies migrate north and then a super generation finds its way from Canada to few isolated mountaintops in Mexico.

Portland Japanese Garden

Proclaimed the most authentic Japanese garden outside of Japan, the Portland Japanese Garden is a 5.5-acre haven of tranquil beauty nestled in the scenic west hills of Portland, Oregon.

Three of the essential elements used to create a Japanese garden are stone, the “bones” of the landscape; water, the life-giving force; and plants, the tapestry of the four seasons.

Secondary elements include pagodas, stone lanterns, water basins, arbors, and bridges.

The desired effect is to realize a sense of peace, harmony, and tranquility and to experience the feeling of being a part of nature
